What is an electronic cigarette?
An electronic cigarette, or e-cigarette, is an electronic device that replicates the feeling of smoking traditional tobacco cigarette by creating an inhaled vapor mimicking the smoke, appearance, and often the same flavor and nicotine strength of tobacco smoke without all the foul smells and thousands of chemicals that are found in tobacco. The device uses heat to vaporize a propylene glycol or glycerin-based liquid solution into a vapor, similar to the way a humidifier vaporizes solutions for inhalation. Most electronic cigarettes are portable, self-contained cylindrical devices similar in size to a traditional tobacco cigarette; though sizes can vary, mainly due to different battery capacities. Many electronic cigarettes are designed to resemble actual cigarettes, cigars, and even pipes.
What is an atomizer?
The atomizer is the heating element that vaporizes the e-liquid, and generally consists of a simple filament and wicking metal mesh to draw the liquid in. Depending on the model of electronic cigarette you are using, the atomizer may be a separate piece that can be used over and over until it burns out or may be built into the cartridge which are also known as cartomizers. The atomizer's filament tends to degrade over time due to a buildup of sediment, or "burns out" entirely, requiring replacement which is normal. If using a electronic cigarette that uses this as a separate piece you will need to replace these items as they degrade or burnout.
What is a cartomizer?
To simplify the electronic cigarette design and the need to replace atomizers cartomizers were developed. Each cartomizer has its own atomizer built right into the cartridge along with the e-liquid. This revolutionary redesign came with many benefits such as; less chance of leakage, more vapor production, less work in regards to not having to refill the e-cig, and holds more liquid. They are often sold in packages of five or more. When their heating elements degrade, or they run out of e-liquid, they can be disposed of and replaced cheaply and easily.
What is Polyfill?
Polyfill is a fiber material that can be used as the wadding (a.k.a. filling) for your Nova electronic cigarette cartridges. Polyfill should be easy to find in your local shopping centers. Most people find polyfill in their local Walmart in the craft/hobby section where they sell all the fabrics and such. It is very inexpensive usually only a few dollars for a huge bag that could last years. Some people also have success in local hobby shops as well.
What is e-liquid?
This is the nicotine liquid which makes your electronic cigarette work. E-liquid can be purchased by the bottle if you are using a refillable method or can come pre-filled in cartridges/cartomizers. E-liquid comes in various flavors and nicotine strengths.
What is dripping?
A technique used for refilling your electronic cigarette, where the e-liquid is dripped onto the atomizer element. Drip tips are very effective for this method since you do not need to remove the cartridge every time.
What do you recommend I buy when I start out?
The Hydro Electronic Cigarette starter kit is highly recommended for all new and veteran electronic cigarette smokers alike. The ease of the 2 part design without the need to refill cartridges truly makes this the most easy to use electronic cigarette on the market.
Why does my new e-cig have a weird taste?
This would typically occur for a few different reasons.
- The most common reason this occurs is because the cartridge you are using has ran out of e-liquid or is starting to dry out. If using the Nova you need to add some more e-liquid and if using the Hydro you should replace the cartomizer. Sometimes waiting a few minutes for some e-liquid to make its way down to the atomizers or letting your cartomizer cool down if you have been using it consistently can also resolve this.
- Nova Specific – The polyfill stuffing in the cartridge maybe hitting the atomizer causing it to burn and would attribute to the taste. Also be sure that the polyfill is clean and consider changing it out.
Why am I getting the liquid in my mouth?
This happens most commonly when the cartridge has been overfilled or some e-liquid has leaked during the shipping of your electronic cigarette products. Try not to swallow the liquid and rinse your mouth thoroughly. For cartomizers and even regular cartridges try detaching it from the battery and blowing the additional liquid out of the other end into a paper towel until it appears to be free of excess liquid. If you have overfilled the cart yourself, you may wish to take the wadding out and 'mop' up the surplus of e-liquid.
Why do I have problems sometimes in getting a good amount of vapor?
First thing you would want to look at is whether or not the cartridge is dry (not enough e-liquid). If you confirmed that there is e-liquid in the cartridge check to make sure that your battery is sufficiently charged. Lastly the atomizer or cartomizer may be at the end of its life and needs to be replaced. Atomizers have a general lifespan of about 3 to 6 weeks but can vary greatly depending on your usage (see below for more details on atomizers). Cartomizers should last until the fluid has run out, however, very rarely they may die before that and would be considered defective. Unfortunately our warranty does not cover cartomizers due to the consumable nature of them, however, if you believe you have a defective cartomizer and don't have repetitive claims, contact support@wetflameecigs.com to see what we can do.
What is a Drip Tip?
A Drip Tip takes the place of your electronic cigarette cartridge and should only be used with a manual battery. It is placed on your atomizer and allows you to directly drip E-liquid to your atomizers coil without having to remove it from your atomizer. For those that drip e-liquid directly into the atomizer or constantly top of their cartridges this truly does makes things easier.
CARTRIDGE/CARTOMIZER QUESTIONS
How long can I expect a cartomizer to last?
Each cartomizer on average is equivalent to about a full pack of traditional cigarettes. This can vary depending on how much time are in between the draws you have on the electronic cigarette meaning if you are taking hits off the electronic cigarette back to back consistently the cartomizer will get much hotter and burn the e-liquid quicker than normal.
Can I reuse my Hydro cartomizers?
There are methods of refilling cartomizers but we do not support them and doing so will void any and all warranties. The reason for this is because it requires opening the cartomizer and also if done improperly the liquid will leak down into the battery and short it out. If your interested in refilling you own electronic cigarettes switch to the Nova as it was designed for that.
Can I reuse my Nova cartridges?
Yes! The Nova electronic cigarette cartridges are designed to be used over and over. Just follow the refilling instructions in the Nova Electronic Cigarette Guide.
How can I refill my cartridges?
See the Refilling you E-Cig guide.
How do I replace the wadding in my cartridges?
See the Refilling you E-Cig guide.
How long does an atomizer last?
Atomizers typically last anywhere between 3 to 6 weeks, however this varies greatly depending on your usage. The technology that powers the atomizers is fragile due to the complication of it which is why it is extremely difficult to really gage how long they should last. Some atomizers can crash in as little as a few weeks where some have reported them lasting as long as 6 months. Be sure to read and follow the proper care guide to ensure you get the most life you can out of your atomizer.
How do I clean my atomizer?
See the Proper Care guide.
Why is my cartridge wadding/filling sticking to the atomizer?
Typically this is cause by not having enough e-liquid in the cartridge, so you are 'vaping it dry'. Sometimes the atomizer may have little metallic threads sticking out which can also catch on to the polyfill stuffing, in this case you should adjust the polyfill so that its not hitting the metal threads.
How do I know when my battery is fully charged?
The chargers have a small LED light on the part that connects to the battery. The LED is usually red you place a dead or used battery into it, and will change color to green when the battery is fully charged.
How long will my battery take to charge?
For all of the models, a first time charge of 8 hours is recommended. Aside from the first charge the typical charging time is between 1 and 3 hours. It may take slightly longer if charging through a USB charger if used without the wall adapter, but this is not always the case.
How long should my battery charge last?
This can vary depending on your usage but generally you can expect to get several hours out of a fully charged battery. Most people find they only need one fully charged battery a day however all of WetFlame's starter kits come with two batteries so you can charge one while using the other!
